Target Species
–Striped Bass are the absolute KING of Long Island Sound! Get ready for a good fight because these fish fight hard and stay deep, making long runs before they come to the surface. With thick white fillets, they also make excellent table fare. Most fish average 15lbs, with any fish over 30lbs considered a trophy catch, in fact the 81.88 pound world record was caught just one mile from our dock!
–Bluefish are a Connecticut staple! “Snappers”, “Tailors”, “Harbors”, “Choppers” and “Alligators” are all used to describe bluefish of various sizes, with the smaller variety being preferred for the grill or smoker. The combination of their razor sharp teeth and vicious attitude make them some of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean. These fish travel in packs so the action is often fast and furious, sometimes catching as many as 75 in one outing! An average bluefish weighs in at 7 pounds but we encounter bluefish to 18 pounds regularly!
–Fluke, Porgies, Blackfish and Sea Bass are some of the finest eating fish in the sea! All have a mild flavored white meat that is excellent for baking, pan-frying, or whatever your preference. They are abundant around our local reefs and wrecks and are a favorite among children because of their manageable size and fast paced action. We target these fish along with Stripers and Blues on most trips, but a dedicated trip can be arranged!
