Here’s regular customer Mike Venghaus with the first keeper of the year!
The moon phase is right, the temp is right and the calendar is right, but the stripers and fluke just haven’t got that memo!
Our local fishery is poised and ready to go. The fish just haven’t migrated to us on their typical schedule, it is that simple.
The winter holdover bass from the Housatonic are on their way and we are starting to catch a few of them, and the Connecticut River fish are around the mouth of the river feeding in the shallow flats. The fish are just not in our area in the numbers they usually are.
Some blame the cold winter, some blame the lack of rain, but it’s probably a little bit of both. They are just simply late. We are getting some fish….. but it is what it is, and it’s all up to mother nature right now. Across the Sound in the Long Island fishery, the fishing is good to great and they are also in numbers and in places a week or so behind where they should be.
Stay tuned. – Capt. TJ
