Captain TJ Karbowski
Captain TJ Karbowski is a United States Coast Guard Certified Master Captain and has been fishing the waters of Long Island Sound his entire life. He started competitive fishing at age 11 with his father, winning and placing in the Montauk shark tournaments. Fishing and boats have been his passion ever since.
When TJ was 20, he had finally saved up enough money to buy his own boat, a 27′ Sea Ray and customized it for offshore fishing. He had this boat for 3 seasons but would soon realize his dream of being a charter captain. He acquired his Captains license and purchased his next boat, a 35′ Luhrs and “Rock and Roll Charters” was born. He built the business up over several years and found he was putting more hours on the boat than the gasoline engines were designed for and a larger boat with diesel engines became necessary.
In 2005 he purchased his current boat, a Hatteras 41 and started chartering as his full time profession. This is a quality built vessel designed for offshore fishing. The boat is equipped with: Twin Detroit Diesel 6-71 engines (970HP), underwater exhausts (no diesel fumes), a 9kw generator, 2 fighting chairs, heat, air conditioning, an extra large bathroom, state of the art navigation equipment and features all DAIWA, SHIMANO and TSUNAMI tournament quality fishing tackle. The Diesel capacity is 550 Gal. and the fresh water tank holds 150 Gal.
Over the years Captain TJ has developed a specialty in light tackle fishing for striped bass and bluefish using his trademark downriggers and has guided his customers to multiple state record catches. This unique approach, along with his ability to consistently put his customers on the fish, are the reasons why “Rock and Roll” is one of the busiest charter boats on the Connecticut shoreline.
Captain TJ is a popular seminar speaker at various sportsman shows, a member of the groups “Stripers Forever” and “The Recreational Fishing Alliance”. He is the Bluefish advisor to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission representing the state of Connecticut and is Treasurer of the Connecticut Charter and Party Boat Association. He lives in North Branford with his wife Kimberly, and children Jacob and Kaci.

Mitch Sandvoss
Mitch has been a member of the crew since 2018 and is obsessed with all things fishing. Mitch has been a die hard striped bass surfcaster for years and has previous experience working at a very busy shipyard. This has allowed him to make a quick transition to the charter fishing business and he is at the top of the game. Mitch is also gifted mechanically and helps with all the boats maintenance and upgrades. He will be getting his Captains License soon and we are looking forward to a bright future with Mitch.
Drew Sodergren
Drew Sodergren joined the crew in 2016. He is a fantastic fisherman in his own right and a pleasure to work with. When he started with us he was in school getting his pilots license and would often do boat “fly-bys” and wing dips during his training sessions. He is now a commercial airline pilot. Maybe you’ll see him when you’re flying the friendly skies or on our back deck on his off days filling in for Mitch.
Wayne Wright
Wayne Wright joined the crew of Rock and Roll in 2011 and works most of our night trips. He is extremely outgoing and is especially good with kids. His 19 years of previous fishing experience ranges from working on the Blackhawk in Niantic to commercially fishing for salmon in Alaska. When off the boat, Wayne has taken up a career in Real Estate and also works for our good friend Joe Pitruzzello at Northeast Taxidermy making the world’s finest fish mounts.
